Guilty Crown Episode 16 Posted on: February 10, 2012 | 256 views Recap: Argo and Ooguma were sent on a mission to retrieve Arisa from sector 7. As part of a deal with a Shanghainess associate of the Kohouin head, they’d agreed to negotiate for military aid in exchange for an arranged marriage with Arisa. Argo lands in sector 7 to witnesses the chaotic events that unfolded under Shu’s leadership. Normal residents and students from other schools were robbed of their vaccine supplies, voids as well as their freedom. Argo was taken to headquarters after intercepting in one of Shu’s secret services’s operations. Shu appeared with the aura of a dictator, not noticing Argo’s presence until he was called out by him. Argo announces his mission to retrieve Arisa, but Yahiro on Shu’s behalf proposes to continue the conversation elsewhere. They later arrive at a dock where low ranked void possessors were forced to work in salvaging vaccines and other equipment from abandoned military vehicles. Among them was Souta who was already at stage one of the Apocalypse infection. Abruptly, the oxygen tank that was supporting Souta began to malfunction, but Shu insists that he make it out on his own. Argo was disgusted with what was happening and tried to rescue Souta himself, but was stopped by Shu. Argo was told that Arisa would not be released due to the usefulness of her void. He was later confined in a cell as punishment for disobeying Shu’s orders. Ayase confronts Shu in regards to the matter, but tells her that he cannot make an exception that would result in the loss of morale. Tsugumi communicates with Argo via Fyu-Neru, informing him that the school had become a kingdom for voids that’s fueled by fear. At the GHQ headquarters, Keido, Haruka and Segai discusses the progress of the situation in sector 7 and that everything was going to plan in drawing out the full potential of Shu’s power. Arisa, whose being under close guard under Shu’s orders escaped from her watchmen. Argo too eventually breaks free from his cell and makes his way to find Arisa. Shu ordered his subordinates to locate them and he along with the student he’d acquired earlier with a grade A void eventually finds Argo in the gymnasium. The two engage in close combat where Argo gained the upper hand and pinned Shu down on the ground. Argo furiously criticizes Shu’s way of leadership, to which, Shu replied by confessing that it was the only way to break everyone out of Tokyo. Yahiro soon arrives and threatened Argo to release Shu. Shortly after doing so, an iron scaffold from the ceiling breaks free. Shu was able to grab the female student to safety but the void weapon that she dropped on the ground gets destroyed by the falling debris. As a result, she becomes crystallized and shattered just how Hare had met her fate. Arisa witnesses the event in fear and escapes, not knowing that Inori was on her trail. With the true cause of Hare’s death revealed, Argo attempts to persuade Shu to back out from using void to break out of Tokyo, knowing the potentially significant amount of casualties that could result from it. But Shu hysterically laughs at the matter, draws Argo’s void and threatens to kill him. Meanwhile, Arisa arrives at the broadcasting room to warn everyone about the voids. However, before she could do so, Inori appears before her. Seemingly being possessed by Mana, Inori incapacitates Arisa. The Kohouin head’s associate grew impatient and called off their deal, but advises him to leave Japan. Meanhwile, back at the GHQ, Haruka and Keido observes upon a resurrected Gai. Impression The events of this episode had brought in additional mysteries to consider. However, at the same time, a few of the dilemmas from the previous episodes had been answered such as the fact that Shu was still composed of himself and had disallowed his ruthlessness to run wild as he made an attempt to save a student near the end of the episode. It’s also being hinted that the ceremony performed in episode 12 may had been successful(or at least partially) in transferring Mana’s soul into Inori’s body as her sadistic tendencies were shown right before she incapacitates Arisa near the end of the episode. One of the few things that I’m looking forward to uncover is obviously the GHQ’s ultimate plan under Segai’s leadership. I could understand their wish to unlock Shu’s full potential but for what purpose exactly? I assume that they were already aware of Inori’s transformation to Mana and counting on her to eventually fulfill her original wish of creating a new world with Shu. And why exactly was Haruka going through with this plan when she had been against having Shu involved in this in the beginning? What will they hope to achieve with the resurrected Gai? Next week will be the assault against the Tokyo Tower which is heavily guarded by the newly created Ghost 2 units. I can see Arisa within the group taking part in the assault so I can rule out her death by Mana’s hands at the end of this episode. I wonder what other danger awaits them besides being overrun by endlaves and infantry.
